Most Able and Talented

Most Able and Talented Policy

Rationale

The School aims to provide a caring and stimulating environment in which all who learn and work here achieve their full potential – and enjoy the process. More specifically, we are committed to building on the individual abilities of our students, including those at the top of the ability spectrum.
We wish to create an atmosphere in which to excel is not only acceptable but also desirable.

Definition
At Radyr Comprehensive School a More Able and Talented pupil is recognised as one who achieves or has the ability to achieve significantly in advance of the large majority of their peer group within the school. These are the pupils who consequently require more challenging provision than that appropriate for the large majority. They include pupils who:
  • Show evidence of high attainment across a wide range of subjects, or demonstrate high levels of attainment in particular subjects or aspects of their work;
  • Have specific academic aptitude and affinity for any curriculum area, subject or aspect of a subject;
  • May be particularly creative in other aspects of their learning, have outstanding leadership and/or team working skills, or possess outstanding interpersonal or intrapersonal skills;
  • Are underachieving and their potential for high attainment may be masked by other factors and not be immediately recognised.
